This is what happens when your farmland is at the bottom of a big bowl. About four acres of land drain to this one low point. Good news is that it is good soil and has adequate soil moisture. Bad news is that frozen ground + deluge = flooding.
Winters are long
Fall planting for winter greens – a great success this year
Winter has disrupted the hens’ routines with a move to the barn from their chicken tractor. It took a couple days for them to find satisfactory places to lay their eggs. This corner is the new fave – and there is a line for it every morning when I open the door.
Passed inspection Clearing out the chicken tractor in anticipation of a stretch of stormy days. I had a very particular chicken boss.
Goats are browsers. They put up with hay and will graze vigorously but they are happiest doing the low pruning of evergreens. Since my neighbors aren’t enamored of having their shrubbery devoured, we have been bringing the goat girls old Christmas trees.
